About NewTown Macon

NewTown Macon“The most important work you and I will ever do will be within the walls of our own homes.”
– Harold B. Lee (1899-1973)

NewTown Macon, a non-profit public-private partnership, is leading a community-wide movement to restore downtown Macon to its original beauty and cultivate a prosperous city for the new century.

Private investment has been the driving and sustaining force behind successful inner city renewal, and public-private partnerships have been the catalysts. NewTown Macon works with private developers, small business owners, corporate and elected leaders and committed citizens to Grow Jobs, Increase Residences and Create a Sense of Place in downtown Macon.

Macon has been home to and the incubator for hundreds – perhaps thousands – of musicians since its founding on the banks of the Ocmulgee River in 1823.  Music and Macon are synonymous and it is this unique history that NewTown wanted to share through the Music from Macon book.  The book would not have been possible without the help of numerous individuals and organizations.  A complete list of our partners is included in the book, but we especially want to thank Dan Slagle of Cox Communications who gave birth to the idea for this wonderful book.

Music is still alive in Macon.  Please check out NewTown Macon's website for information about downtown happenings, music events and more.  You can even sign up for a weekly e-newsletter with a calendar of events
